Lobos knock Waco Midway out
of playoffs for second
straight year by a mere
point...
For the second straight
year, a controversial call
made the difference in a
playoff win over Waco
Midway. The only
difference is that this
year, the controversial call
wasn't made by the
officials, it was made by
the Midway coaching staff.
The Panthers scored with
3:45 left in the game to get
within a point of the Lobos,
14-13. Longview was
then called for an offside
penalty--probably the best
penalty of the year for
Longview because it
convinced the Waco Midway
coaching staff to go for the
two point conversion from
the one yard line. That's
when the capacity Lobo crowd
stood with excitement as
Waco Midway attempted a
two-point conversion to go
up by a point. Midway
QB Ryan Smith took the snap,
handing the ball off to
Midway RB Marc Martinez, who
was stuffed at the two yard
line by the Lobo defense.
Longview was then able to
run the clock out after
driving the field and taking
a knee.
(stats)
Waco Midway will go home for
the second straight year at
the hands of a one-point
Lobo victory. Longview
(11-1) will face
Carrollton

Longview will face Waco
Midway 2 p.m. Saturday in
Dallas...
With Waco Midway's win over Red Oak, 14-9, the
Lobos will play the Panthers
2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at
Dallas' Kincaide Stadium
in the
second round of the
playoffs. The Lobos will be
the home team. Longview faced
Waco Midway in last year's
playoffs in a Regional Final
overtime thriller where the
Lobos prevailed, 43-42. QB
Aaron Johnson extended the
ball over the goal line for
the two-point conversion to
give the Lobos the one-point
win. The game, known as "the
call" is regarded as one of
the most exciting Lobo games
of all time. Tickets are $10
at the gate. |
Lobos knock off Whitehouse,
52-9, in first round of
playoffs...
Whitehouse gave the Lobos
all they wanted in the first
quarter, but the tables
turned in the three quarters
that counted. Longview
racked up 508 yards of
offense in the contest,
despite giving up 224 yards
passing by Whitehouse QB
Hunter Taylor, who left the
game after a
big sack by DB Anthony
Wiley.
The Lobos played close to an
error-free game with no
turnovers, and picking off
four Wildcat passes.

Lobos
take advantage of turnovers,
beat Mavs 47-30...
Last year, Marshall and
Longview were tied 21-21 in
the third quarter, but
costly turnovers by the Mavs
cost them the game.
This year's game was no
different. The
Marshall Mavericks played a
great first half, only down
by one point going into the
dressing room. But
Marshall was its own worst
enemy in the second half,
turning the ball over five
times resulting in four Lobo
scores. Longview put
up a quick 14 points in the
first three minutes of the
first half thanks to a
recovered onside kick, but
Marshall would answer with
an impressive 22 points in
the second quarter.
But the second half
turnovers by the Mavericks
determined the outcome of
the game. Marshall QB
Brandon Fitzgerald looked
impressive, throwing for 161
yards, despite throwing
three interceptions for the
second straight week.
The Lobos racked up 339
yards rushing, compared to
134 for the Mavs. Longview's
passing game only completed
three passes all night on 16
attempts for 49 yards.
Longview improves to 7-1 and
4-0 in District 13-3A play
while the Mavericks drop to
4-3 and 2-1 in district
play. Under Coach John
King, Longview hasn't lost a
home game for the sixth
straight year.
Longview travels to
Hallsville next Friday to
face Hallsville in a 7:30
p.m. matchup at Bobcat
Stadium. Hallsville (3-4,
2-1) defeated Pine Tree 34-0
on Oct. 16.
