
John King
Head Coach & Athletic Director
John King has led one of Texas' premier high school football programs since being named Longview High School's head football coach in 2004 after serving four seasons as the Lobos' offensive coordinator. Under his leadership, Longview has remained one of the state's most consistent and successful programs, capturing the 2018 Class 6A Division II state championship while winning multiple district championships and making deep playoff runs.
King is the winningest football coach in Longview High School history and has guided the Lobos to more than 20 consecutive playoff appearances.
A native of Springhill, La., King graduated from Springhill High School in 1986 before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern State University in 1992.
His coaching career included stops at Many High School, Northwestern State University, Vernon Parish schools in Louisiana and Ouachita Parish before joining the Longview coaching staff in 2000 as offensive coordinator.
In addition to serving as head football coach, King is Longview ISD's athletic director, overseeing one of East Texas' most successful athletic programs.
His commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the field has earned statewide recognition. In 2026, the Texas High School Coaches Association inducted King into its Hall of Honor and presented him with the Coaching Beyond the Game Award, recognizing his impact on Texas high school athletics and his leadership beyond wins and losses.
