Lobos outlast Rockwall 56-49 in shootout

ROCKWALL — Longview stopped Rockwall on fourth down with 17 seconds left to secure a 56-49 win Friday after a wild back-and-forth game.
Lawson Tubb knocked down a fourth-down pass to end Rockwall’s final drive and preserve the victory. The teams combined for 105 points (1,048 total yards) and Rockwall rallied from a 15-point deficit to tie the game at 49 late in the fourth quarter.
Longview quarterback Trey Hamilton scored the winning touchdown on a 1-yard keeper with about two minutes remaining. The Lobos then pinned Rockwall at its own 2-yard line on the kickoff.
The teams scored four touchdowns on their first five plays from scrimmage. Rockwall opened with an 80-yard touchdown pass. Longview answered with a 68-yard scoring pass from Johnny Hamilton to Jaden Hurndon, then Rockwall’s Jagger Goss returned the kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown.
Trey Hamilton ran 89 yards for another Longview touchdown, tying the game at 14. Rockwall took a 21-14 lead on a 42-yard touchdown pass before Longview’s Jakelvin Muckleroy scored on a 6-yard run to tie it.
Longview took the lead when Jacaiden Davis scored on a 44-yard run after Rockwall’s fake punt fell incomplete. Hamilton later connected with Kaidon Graves for a 61-yard touchdown on third-and-13, putting the Lobos ahead 35-21.
Rockwall cut the lead to 35-28 with a 25-yard touchdown on a fake kneel-down with 22 seconds left in the first half.
Longview extended its lead to 42-28 to open the second half after an onside kick traveled only 4 yards. Davis ran 20 yards to the 1, setting up Trey Hamilton’s touchdown keeper.
Rockwall answered with a 3-yard touchdown run, then Longview’s Hamilton threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Washington. Rockwall scored on a 35-yard pass and converted the two-point attempt to make it 49-42 at the end of the third quarter.
A 71-yard touchdown pass tied the game at 49 with 4:58 remaining. Longview then drove to the 1-yard line for Hamilton’s winning score.
The Lobos held on through Rockwall’s final possession, which included a short pass and a pair of late timeouts before Tubb’s fourth-down stop.
