Lobos rout Lufkin in season-opener, 59-7

Longview opened the 2026 season in dominating fashion Friday night, racing out to a 38-point halftime lead on the way to a 59-7 victory over longtime rival Lufkin at Abe Martin Stadium.

Playing for the 89th time in a rivalry that dates back generations, the Lobos took control early on both sides of the ball and never let the Panthers find their footing.

Longview built a commanding 38-0 advantage by halftime while its defense turned in a nearly flawless opening two quarters. The Lobos held Lufkin to just 6 yards of total offense in the first half, consistently shutting down the Panthers and giving the Longview offense favorable opportunities.

The Lobos carried the momentum through the second half to secure the season-opening victory and improve to 1-0.

Longview now turns its attention to its home opener against longtime rival Marshall on Friday, Sept. 4, at Lobo Stadium.

The game will serve as Longview’s annual GREEN OUT, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
