King, Wilson honored by THSCA

Longview High School coaches John King and Oscar Wilson were recognized Saturday by the Texas High School Coaches Association during the organization's Hall of Honor banquet at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

King, the Lobos' head football coach and athletic director, was inducted into the THSCA Hall of Honor and also received the Coaching Beyond the Game Award.

Wilson, Longview's assistant head coach and running backs coach, received the 2026 Tom Landry Award, which recognizes coaches who have made a lasting positive impact on student-athletes and the game of football in Texas.

King has led the Lobos since 2004, compiling a 240-52 overall record, winning 17 district championships and guiding Longview to the Class 6A Division II state championship in 2018. He also has served as THSCA president and remains active in statewide leadership.

Wilson has been part of Longview High School's coaching staff since 1979 and has dedicated more than four decades to mentoring student-athletes. A Marshall native, he also has coached at Hallsville, Marshall and Pittsburg high schools.

The THSCA also honored former Marshall High School coach Dennis Parker with induction into the Hall of Honor and Longview News-Journal sports editor Jack Stallard with the Putt Powell Award for excellence in sports journalism. Other Hall of Honor inductees included Robert Brown, Steven Cerny, Mike Hedrick, Weldon Nelms and Johnny Ringo.

The annual Hall of Honor banquet is held in conjunction with the THSCA Coaching School and Convention, which brings together coaches from across Texas.
